Racecar Engineer Input/Output Details
|
Calculated Outputs: Lateral G and weight transfer depending on Speed and Corner Radius Vertical G and vehicle load due to Bank Angle-including off camber corners Longitudinal Center of Gravity Location Longitudinal Center of Pressure Location Estimated Center of Gravity Height Tire Loads during cornering and braking "Traction Index" or percent of total vehicle load carried by each tire during cornering and braking Tire deflection including air pressure effects Weight transfer values due to spring and bar rates as well as center of gravity and roll center locations Wheel natural frequencies including downforce effects Effective spring rate for springs, bars and tires including motion ratio effects Relative front to rear weight transfer balance Relative contribution of springs, bars and roll centers to total weight transfer Required spring perch adjustment to ride height after a spring change. Magnitude of preload resulting from spring perch adjustment for provided spring rates and motion ratios Predicted roll angles due to suspension movement and due to tire deflection Predicted ride height
In addition to the above, the Setup Calculator function uses an proprietary iterative solver to find combinations of anti-roll bars, springs and roll center locations which will meet your setup goals while maintaining the desired weight transfer balance for your car. This is the preferred way to adjust roll stiffness contributions of the springs, bars and roll centers, or to change the overall stiffness of the car without disturbing its balance.
In spite of the complex functions it performs, this is very straightforward and easy to use tool for use at the track. While it is often useful to have an engineer on your team, you wont need one to use this software.

User Inputs The following inputs will be used if the user has them available. In the event that some data is not available, you can provide estimated values and use the software to identify trends based on your setup changes. When all of the required data is entered, calculations are performed to return the predicted performance for your entered information.
Spring rates, anti-roll bar rates, roll center locations, spring and roll bar motion ratios, down force, center of gravity height, vehicle weight at each wheel, weight of unsprung mass, tire verticle stiffness, tire air pressure, initial ride height, track width, wheelbase, lateral g, vertical g, longitudinal g, bank angle, speed and corner radius.
A configuration area allows selection of open wheel graphics, metric units, default page display, symetric spring rates and tire pressures, etc.
